Most tropical plants prefer consistently moist soil, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out before watering. Always discard any excess water that has drained out the bottom of the pot.
 
As a general rule, fertilizing with a 50/50 solution of liquid fertilizer and water monthly during the Summer will help your tropical plant grow well.
  
Remove any brown, yellowing, or dried foliage, leaves, and stalks as close to the soil line as possible with shears or scissors.
