6" Ficus - Weeping Fig - Zig-Zag
Ficus Benjamina 'ZigZag'
With proper care and growing conditions, a Weeping Fig can survive and thrive for many, many years. The leaves are naturally smooth and shiny, prone to accumulating dust over time. Use a damp washcloth to clean your plant's leaves and restore their shine. Weeping Figs do not like to be moved and repositioned. If they are moved too much or too often, they will start dropping their leaves. They will also starting dropping leaves if the temperature around them changes too much, too quickly. Because of this, it is best to keep your plant away from drafts from doors and air vents. To increase the humidity around your plant, lightly mist once a week with water.
Weeping Figs grow best in bright spaces with lots of indirect sunlight, and the occasional direct morning sun. If exposed to direct morning sun, be sure to balance it with a few hours of afternoon shade.
Keep the soil consistently moist, being sure to discard any excess water that drains out the bottom of the pot. If your plant sits in water, the soil and roots will become too wet and your plant will start to drop its leaves. Try to stick to a firm schedule of a moderate water application once a week.
Weeping Figs are heavy feeders. Fertilize monthly during the growing season (Spring and Summer) with a 50/50 solution of liquid fertilizer and water. Apply the same mixture every other month in the Fall and Winter.
Trimming your plant is great for managing its height and shape. The best time to prune a Weeping Fig is during the Winter, when your plant has gone dormant. Pruning during dormancy is the best way to avoid unnecessary damage to your plant. Remove dead branches and leaves to help prevent against diseases and fungus on your plant.
