6" Hypocerta - Goldfish H.B.
Nematanthus
Goldfish Hypocerta gets its name from its bright orange flowers, which resemble a goldfish leaping out of water. Goldfish Hypocerta grow best in mild to moderate humidity. Lightly misting once a day with room-temperature water will help get the humidity levels around your plant to where they should be. Do not mist with cold water; this will damage the leaves. When the growing season for your plant ends (late Fall), your plant will need less water but higher humidity. Moving your plant to a bathroom will be helpful in getting your plant the humidity it needs over Winter.
| | Goldfish Hypocerta grow best in lots of bright, indirect light. Placing near an east or west-facing window is best for getting your plant the amount of light it needs. Placing under a growing light over Winter will help keep your plant's light levels where they need to be for optimal growth. Minimal to no exposure to hot, direct sunlight, as this can cause buring to the leaves of your plant. |
| | Water regularly from late Spring to early Fall, keeping the soil consistently moist. From late Fall through Winter, allow the soil to become slightly dry to the touch before watering. Be careful not to let the soil dry out completely. |
| | For optimal growth, fertilize weekly during the growing season (Spring and Summer) with a 50/50 solution of liquid fertilizer and water. |
| | Prune your plant back by up to 1/3 in early Spring. This helps promote more blooms and healthier plant growth. Additional trimming includes removing dead and yellowing leaves, brushing off dried up flowers that have dropped from their stems, and cutting back branches that are too long. When trimming your plant, cut the stem at an angle just below a leaf or flower node. |
