6" Lipstick - Black Pagoda H.B.
Aeschynanthus
Lipstick Plant gets its name from its flowers, which resemble an open tube of lipstick once fulled bloomed. With the right growing conditions, your plant should produce flowers throughout most of the year, though blooming will be the most prolific in the Summer and Fall months. Like most tropical plants, Lipstick Plants prefer warmth and humidity; avoid sudden temperature changes. To help keep the temperature and humidity around your plant consistent, it is best to keep it away from air vents and drafts.
| | Lipstick Plants grow best in bright, but indirect light. Direct sunlight can cause burning and scorching of the leaves, and not enough light will restrict flowering and may cause your plant to start droppping leaves. |
| | Lipstick Plants grow best with consistently moist soil, especially during the Summer and Fall when they are flowering the most. However, overwatering can cause root rot, fungal diseases, and leaf drop. Check the soil before watering your plant. To check, stick your finger into the soil of your plant. If the top inch or two of soil no longer feels damp or moist, then it is time to water. If you still feel moisture in the soil, wait a day or two before checking again. |
| | Lipstick Plants respond well to an application of slow-release fertilizer once a month during the growing season (Spring and Summer). |
| | Pruning the long trailing stems will help keep your plant from looking leggy and stretched. Pruning will also help encourage new, healthy growth. You can remove up to 1/3 of each vine at a time. |
