6" Spider - Variegated H.B.

Chlorophytum Species

Despite the name, Spider Plants are one of the most popular house plants. They are fairly fast growers, and require minimal care, making them an ideal plant for beginner plant growers. In ideal growing conditions, Spider Plants will produce baby starter plants at the bottom of their trailing vines. These baby plants can be pruned off the parent plant and transplanted into their own pot. Spider Plants grow well on table tops, shelves, window sills, and in hanging baskets. Just make sure the air around them is humid enough. If it isn't, lightly mist your plant with water once a week.

Sun_PartialShade.png Spider Plants grow best in light shade and bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight will scorch and burn the leaves, and heavy shade will limit how much your plant will grow.
Water3.png Spider Plants really like consistently moist soil. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil starts to dry out. To check, stick your finger into the soil to the second knuckle. If the soil feels dry or barely damp, then it's time to water your plant. Be careful not to overwater or heavily water your plant; Spider Plants do not like wet or soggy soil. Discard any excess water that drains out the bottom of the pot.
Fertilize monthly with an all-purpose granular fertilizer during the growing season (Spring and Summer).
Remove any dead or browning leaves as they appear. If your plant starts to get too leggy (stretched looking), remove any baby plants that may be growing to direct the growing energy back to the parent plant.
